Simon Camilleri

After finishing his BA in Theatre Studies at La Trobe University, Simon started The Backyard Bard by directing Shakespeare's 'Othello' in the 2003 Melbourne Fringe Festival. Since then his focus has been swept up into the wonderful art of Biblical Storytelling and for the last 4 years he has been able to share the stories in God's Word in Primary Schools, High Schools, Universities and Churches through performances, workshops and seminars. In 2006, Simon came 2nd in a National Biblical Storytelling Competition and has directed large-scale Biblical Storytelling productions such as 'The Gospel of Mark', 'Storytelling Judges' and 'Daniel'. He is greatly looking forward to sharing the powerful story of Elijah with many people this year.

Robert Turnbull

Rob started doing Biblical Storytelling after seeing a video cover and mistakenly thinking that it was an actor performing John's Gospel word-for-word. He thought that he should learn Mark's Gospel and perform it as a busker in Melbourne's CBD. Without any acting training (or ability!) and with only the aid of a 2nd hand acting book, he didn't get very far. His then love-interest (now wife Simone) mentioned that her friend Simon (see above) was thinking of a project with a similar concept. Since then, Rob has been part of The Backyard Bard's productions of 'Daniel' and 'Esther' - whilst taking every opportunity to tell a Bible story when anyone would listen. He currently works at Monash University as a trainee staffworker with the Christian Union.
