Robert Turnbull
Robert Turnbull began reading the Bible with Luke's Gospel in 1997 as a secondary school student. On entering university, he decided he wanted to memorise a Gospel and perform it on the street in Melbourne's CBD. He then was introduced to Simon Camilleri who had a similar ambition. Rob was then part of Simon's cast of twelve storytellers in 2002, performing Mark's Gospel in its entirety through La Trobe Student Theatre. From this group came the theatre company The Backyard Bard through which Rob has performed lead roles in Daniel, Elijah and The Adventures of Elisha. He also helped direct Esther in the 2006 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
In 2008, Rob began performing as a Biblical Storyteller his full-time job. Through this he developed a number of Biblical Storytelling presentations such as Jonah, Ruth, Mission of Paul 3, Samuel and Pentecost. For Easter 2009 he undertook his biggest challenge to that time of Jesus: According to Luke which brings together stories from the entirety of Luke's Gospel. He is continuing to perform these storytellings and is proud to be performing 'Luke' as well as Revelation in the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Rob did Science (Maths/Astro) at Monash Uni but has studied Performing Arts through short courses and intensives through the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash. After performing Revelation, Robert will have performed almost 25% of the New Testament and almost 9% of the whole Bible.
Rob is married to Simone and they have a baby daughter named Hannah.
